ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUES BEDFORD

WHAT IS ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUES®

ART is a patented, state of the art soft tissue system/movement based technique that treats problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, and nerves.  The technique was developed by Dr. Leahy when he realized that many chiropractic patients' symptoms were related to changes in their soft tissue.  By experimenting with how these specific soft tissues responded to focused soft tissue techniques, he created muscle, ligament, and nerve protocols which now make up the ART system.

HOW DOES ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUES® WORK

ART is effectively used to treat a variety of conditions such as headaches, carpal tunnel syndrome, shin splints, shoulder pain, sciatica, knee problems, plantar fasciitis, and more.  These conditions all have an important thing in common:  they are often a result of overused muscles.  Overuse conditions can cause your body to produce tough, dense scar tissue in the affected area.  This prevents tissues from moving freely, and eventually muscles become shorter and weaker.

ART sessions involve a combination of examination and treatment.  Tissues are manually evaluated for texture, tightness, and movement prior to treatment.  Abnormal tissues are treated by applying tension to the affected area with as specific movements are performed.
